For fifteen years, this young couple lived in a starter house in the suburbs, waiting for just the right house to come on the market in Minneapolis. They finally found it in Lowry Hill: a stately 1920s home with Mediterranean inflections and a view of the Basilica. It has about 6 more bedrooms than they need, but the heart of the home had gracious rooms for entertaining and a panelled library where they envisioned spending most of their time. Their inspiration was the Hotel JK Roma, and from it we determined a game plan: colorblocking rich jewel tones, tailored pieces with unexpected shapes, vintage items in dynamic scale, and a smattering of the exotic sprinkled in. Now the interior stands up to the exterior, and the spaces balance the wife’s more reserved, tailored taste with the husbands flair for the fanciful.

"We were drawn to the mix—the combination of vintage and new, high and low, and great art that always seems to feel warm. You really listened to us and had a great vision from the start. Selections that initially seemed wild have become treasured focal points throughout the home. HPD exceeded our expectations.”
