Tile Mixing

Mixing tile is a fun way to incorporate color, pattern and texture into a bathroom. On a recent bathroom remodel that we are in the final stages of completing, we mixed a square patterned floor tile with a sage green subway tile with coordinating pencil tile and completed it with a neutral small scale hex for the shower floor. We choose a warm white quartz for the shower curb and niche shelves and the same beige colored grout throughout to tie the look together. We are loving the results and hope the clients are too!

An example of tile mixing shown in our current bathroom remodel project:

There are four mixed tile looks here. Glam, Urban Modern, Boho and Cottage.

In order to make these looks successful we use the following guidelines:

1. Treat stone as a neutral.

2. Pattern consistency.

3. Limit your color palette.

4. Play with scale.

5. Alternate between matte and glossy.

6. Contrast can be a good thing, whether it be in the grout or in the tile, this can make or break a look.

7. And the most of important of all, have fun!

I hope you enjoyed a few tips and tricks to mixing tile and found some useful inspiration.
