Inspired By: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel follows Rachel Brosnahan as she battles being the typical 1950s housewife. Going into its fourth season this year, the show is absolutely hilarious filled with drama, comedy and amazing set design set in 1950s Manhattan. Rachel’s character, Midge, has an insane wardrobe throughout the whole show that stands up to the curated set design surrounding her. This was one of the first shows, after beginning to study interior design, that I really paid attention to the set design of a show not just looking at the overall design but becoming obsessed with every detail!

From the very first season, I was inspired by the living room of their Manhattan apartment that mixes amazing mid century pieces in different shapes and textures to create an eclectic yet balanced room. In addition to the pieces, the color palette mixes in pops of color in a refined way. Below I have created an inspiration board that pulls similar pieces that are inspired by the living room from the show. I mixed in some vintage mid century piece with some modern takes. Each season has nailed the set design on the spot and I am excited to see what next season brings. I encourage you to check out the show, not only for a good laugh, but also to keep an eye out for the amazing set design and maybe you will find some inspiration too!
