Decade Spotlight: 70s palette

I grew up in the late 70s and as it turns out, the decade was pretty influential on my taste. As mentioned in the Artful Living feature on some of my favorite things, I love the mix of materials and shapes served up by the 70s—not to mention the color palette! While avocado green and orange were big (and I’m a bg fan of both!) the 70s vibe we brought to our design studio focused on a tighter, tonal palette: Ochre, camel, beige, brown, black, and many shades of white.

The key: to vary the texture and include lots of organic materials. Burl, rattan, lacquer, shearling, horn, hide, cork….the list goes on and I’m into it all.

To keep it fresh for today, focus on simple, sexy shapes (loving the raffia covered waterfall desk—coming to the studio soon) and make sure to mix modern and vintage. The pieces in this board are about half and half.
